SKAIN Presented Serbian Patriarch Irinej With The Order Of Knight – Tesla Medal
11/7/13
BELGRADE – The Serbian Royal Association of Academics, Innovators and Scientists (SKAIN) held its 26th formal meeting on Wednesday, Science Day and Nikola Tesla’s birthday, with Serbian Orthodox Patriarch Irinej being presented with the Order of Knight – Tesla medal.
Irinej said he saw the medal as a recognition to the Serbian Orthodox Church and its priests, who had always had an important role among the Serbian people.
He added that it was up to him to repay the honour by working to make the Church a core institution of the Serbian people, without which they would be poorer, and maybe not exist at all.
Tesla is a great name in the Serbian people, a scientist who helped put the Serbian people on the map, since he was a Serbian origin, and especially since he was a son of a Serbian Orthodox Church priest, Irinej stated.
SKAIN President Ljubinko Ilic welcomed the participants of the event.
State Secretary for Education Radivoje Mitrovic laid a wreath at Tesla’s statue in Belgrade to mark the scientists birthday and Science Day.
A science camp for children was opened, at Viminacium, near Kostolac, on Wednesday to mark Science Day and Tesla’s birthday, and a debate on branding Serbia was held in Novi Sad.
An exhibition entitled Nikola Tesla’s Diplomas was opened at the Millenium Tower in Belgrade.
The Belgrade Museum of Nikola Tesla is guesting in the U.S., presenting a part of its collection at an exhibition dedicated to Tesla at the Hall of Science in Queens.
Tesla was one of the greatest scientist in history and his inventions in many ways set the direction of the scientific and technological development in the 20th century. He was born in Smiljan on July 10, 1856, and died in New York on January 7, 1943.
