Six Years Of Uninterrupted Appearance Of “Lumina” Newspaper

Six years ago, on 7 February 2005, the first Christian – Orthodox daily newspaper was published.

It was a name designed to spread the word of God through kind human words. Compared to the history of the press, in general, the six years do not mean much, but from the point of view of the relationship between the church life and today’s society, these six years represent the experience of a good fruitful pioneer’s work.
Here are some of the projects proposed and achieved one year ago:

1. Enlarging, in 2010, the area of spreading by increasing the number of the regional editions from one to four;

2. Increase for the second year in the run, of the number of copies published to 23,000 copies per day;

3. Doubling the editorial team;

4. Increase of the religious activity up to four times;

5. Launching of the new platform of www.ziarullumina.ro;

6. A modern graphic formula;

7. Off-line storing of the “Lumina” publications with digital support;

8. Diminishing with 25% of the production expenses through the re-negotiation of the contracts for printing and distribution;

As the “Lumina” newspaper informs us, the following projects have been proposed for 2011, with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and help of God glorified in Trinity:

1. Opening of the regional edition of Bessarabia that will be called the Regional edition of Moldova and Bessarabia;

2. Expanding the distribution of the weekly “Lumina de duminica” (Sunday Light) publication that will have lengthy pages of the religious life of the Romanian Orthodox Diaspora, as well as of the entire Christian world;

3. Launching the subscription service through SMS designed to increase the number of subscriptions with 10%;

4. Re-publication in a book of the most important materials appeared in “Lumina” publication: interviews, documentaries and articles.

5. Launching till the end of 2011 of the project entitled “Photographs of the Romanian Orthodoxy” – a web page of the site www.ziarullumina.ro comprising 1000 rare photos from the history of the Romanian Orthodox Church during the last century, images scanned from the archives of the National Council for Studying the Security Archives and the National Central Historical Archives of Bucharest by Mr. Adrian Nicolae Petcu, historian and collaborator of “Lumina” publication. The Archives will be available on DVD too.

6. Launching of the new layout for the weekly “Lumina de Duminică” as soon as the printing is transferred to Pharos Printing House, which much better printing equipment than that of the four printing houses where “Lumina” publication is printed at present;

7. Strengthening the editorial office of the Transylvania edition by setting up a sub-editorial office in Cluj and by doubling the number of subscriptions for the Regional Edition of Transylvania.

8. Launching of some extra weeklies, of four or eight pages, with inter-disciplinary character with joint subsidising especially outside the budget of “Lumina” publications.

9. Increase of the number of copies to:

– 125,000 monthly subscriptions for “Ziarul Lumina” daily newspaper by continuing the subscription campaign in the Metropolitan See of Cluj, Alba, Crişana and Maramureş. The daily “Ziarul Lumina” publication wants to be, for the third year in the run, in the “Top 5” of the best newspapers sold by subscriptions;

– 130,000 subscriptions to the weekly “Lumina de Duminică” by launching the subscription campaign in Diaspora;

10. Beginning, in premiere, of the national study of the audience of the “Lumina publications, both inside and outside. The audience will be established both by a specialised firm of BRAT or GFK type and by studies initiated and monitored directly by “Lumina” publications.

11. Transferring the printing to Pharos Printing House of the Romanian Patriarchate in order to diminish the printing expenses under the level of 2010;

12. Diminishing the expenses with 10% through the re-negotiation of the distribution contracts.
