Representatives of Public Organizations of Ukraine Call to Political Silence During Patriarch’s Visit

Representatives of the public organizations of Ukraine addressed to all political parties with appeal not to propagandize their ideology and party branding during the visit of The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Patriarch Kirill to Ukraine, but “to be tolerant and hold in respect the freedom of conscience of the citizens of Ukraine, their freedom of choice of ecclesial communities and religious ideology”, according to Komsomolskaya Pravda.

“We, representatives of the public organizations of Ukraine, address all the political parties with an initiative to declare “political silence” for the period of visit of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia to Ukraine”, states the document.

In particular, the authors of the address forewarn against the political speculations, possible “against a backdrop of the significant events for Ukraine”.

“Such attempts always affected negatively the overall image of our state, formed a distorted perception of Ukraine and its hospitable people in the world community. All that resulted in an extremely low degree of respect to Ukraine and its citizens on the part of the world community” the public activists note.

The address was signed by 64 public organizations of Ukraine.
