Religious Leaders Urge Political Parties To Strive To Make The Election Peaceful, Democratic

Religious leaders called up on political parties to make maximum efforts to make the 4th national elections peaceful, fair and democratic.

In a meeting held here on Thursday at the assembly hall of the National Electoral Board in the presence of representatives of all political parties, the religious leaders said political parties have the responsibility to make election fair and free.

They said the election should be carried out in a way that should maintain public peace and safety.

They said inspite of the difference, political parties should work for safety and peace of the public.

In his message to the political parties, Ethiopian Orthodox Church Patriarch, Abune-Paulos urged the parties to make their election competition healthy.

He further said peaceful dialogue among the contending political parties would be beneficial to the public.

Ethiopian Supreme Council President for Islamic Affairs, Sheik Ahmedin Sih Abdulahi said the election should not be that violates human rights, destabilize the peace of the public and erode on-going developments and claim the lives of innocent people since election is usually intended to build dependable peace.

Ethiopian Catholic Church President, Abune Berhaneyesus said on part political parties need to narrow their difference and capitalize on understanding among others.

Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus Vice President, Reverend Dereje Jemberu stressed the need for creating a nation where the younger generation can lead their life peacefully and where peace prevails. –ENA
