Priests will come to Russian army in 2011 – Defense Ministry

Moscow, July 5, Interfax – The institution of military clergy will be introduced in the Russian army before the end of this year, Boris Lukichev, the head of the department for work with religious servicemen of the Main Department for Work with Personnel of the Russian Armed Forces, told Interfax.

“The president has ordered to introduce the institution of military priests in the army and fleet before the end of 2011. We are now doing everything to fulfill this task,” Lukichev told Interfax on Tuesday.

A decision has also been made to train priests in one of the Defense Ministry’s universities, who will be appointed assistants to commanders and the heads of departments for work with religious servicemen, he said.
