Prayer and Practical Co-operation for Christian Unity

The Press Office of the Romanian Patriarchate informs us:
During the third week of January (18 – 25 January) the Christian Churches all over the world organise every year evenings of prayer for Christian Unity. The theme of the Week of prayer for Christian Unity in 2011 is inspired by the scriptural text “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42).
Following the consultations of the Romanian Patriarchate with the persons in charge with the local dialogue of the Christian Churches of Bucharest in view of establishing the programme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (18 – 25 January 2011) the general frame of this ecumenical traditional manifestation was approved, so that it will take place according to the following programme:
– Tuesday, 18 January, Patriarchal Cathedral (Dealul Mitropoliei) 16.00 hours;
– Wednesday, 19 January, A.C. Evangelical Church (2 Lutheran St.), 17.00 hours;
– Thursday, 20 January, Armenian Church (43 Carol I St.), 17 hours;
– Friday, 21 January, Reformed Church (Calvineum church, 13 bis Lutheran St.), 17.00 hours;
– Saturday, 22 January, Greek-Catholic Church (39 Sirenelor St.), 17.00 hours
– Sunday, 23 January, every Church will have prayers for Christian unity within the ordinary services;
– Monday, Anglican Church (39 Arthur Verona St.), 17.00 hours
– Tuesday, 25 January, Roman Catholic Cathedral of “Saint Joseph” (19 General Berthelot St.), 17.00 hours.
The Romanian Patriarchate reminds the Orthodox clergy that according to the decision of the Holy Synod no. 6745/29 October 2008, at the Orthodox Cathedrals and other churches in the country and abroad, the representatives of the other Christian religious cults will attend the Orthodox service (Vesper) without liturgical participation. After the Orthodox service, the official representatives of the other Christian Churches will present their opinions on the peaceful co-inhabitation and local or regional ecumenical co-operation.
The Romanian Orthodox clergy present at the ecumenical prayer organised by the other Christian Churches will attend their prayers without liturgical participation, and then will deliver a speech on the theme of the meeting.
