Polish Orthodox Church Initiates Training on “Personal Data Protection”

Warsaw-Poland: A training was held for the Diocesan Inspectors on “Personal Data Protection” was held, on the 18th of February 2021, at the Orthodox Culture Center in Warsaw. Fr. Prot. Dr Andrzej Lewczak, Chief Church Inspector for Personal Data Protection Chaired the training session. The trianing was attended by: Fr. Prot. Artur Graban (Wrocław-Szczecin Diocese), Fr. Prot. Andrzej Grycz (Przemyśl-Gorlice Diocese), Fr. Prot. Dr. Andrzej Konachowicz (Diocese of Lublin – Chełm) attorney Wiesław Dembowski (Diocese of Białystok – Gdańsk).

They discussed the scope of competences and obligations of diocesan personal data protection inspectors, points of contact in the area of ​​personal data protection within the provisions in force in the Church, in the light of the Regulations on Personal Data Protection and the Regulations of the European Parliament and of the Council (EU 2016/679 of 27 April 2016), and on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (general regulation on data protection). Various incidents related to the breach of personal data protection were discussed in the meeting.

An analysis of the control of documents concerning the observance of personal data protection by legal entities of the Church was undertaken by the diocesan inspectors. Based on the case studies, scenarios of conduct during an incident of data protection breach were also discussed.
