Addis Ababa, December 14 (WIC) – A photographic exhibition depicting images of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church was opened on Sunday at the Ethiopian National Museum.

The exhibition “Between Heaven and Erath: a Journey Through Christian Ethiopia,” by NICK Danziger features 32 stunning black and white images from an elderly calligrapher writing in the ancient classical language of Geez to children studying scriptures in the shade of a tree, drummers practicing their art and vertiginous views of mass prayers gatherings.

Danziger said the exhibition would help document the ancient and precious cultures of Ethiopian Orthodox Church and introduce them to the rest of the world.
He said the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the oldest surviving Christian communities in the world and a source of wonder and curiosity to several countries.

According to Danziger, extensive measures need to be taken to make Ethiopia’s existing ancient and attractive cultural heritages a center of tourism.

Director of the British Council, Barbara Wickham, on her part said that Ethiopia is one of the few countries with unique heritages and cultures. She said Ethiopia’s attractive churches and heritages are little known to the world, she said, adding that concerted efforts need to be done to make them known to the rest of the world.

Commenting on the country’s current status, she said that Ethiopia is making remarkable changes in strengthening democracy and ensuring successive economic growth.
