Patriarch Kirill wins the Person of the Year prize

Moscow, December 11, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia won the Person of the Year national prize 2009 in Religion nomination.

Patriarch Kirill is named a Person of the Year for outstanding contribution in spiritual revival of Russia, the Russian Orthodox Church official website has reported.

Person of the Year 2009 was also given to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Leo Bokeria, President of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation Valery Zorkin, Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov, head coach of the Russian rhythmic gymnastics team Irina Viner, Film Director Vladimir Bortko.

The Russian Biography Institute set up the Person of the Year prize in 1992. The Institute’s Expert Council grants the prize for outstanding achievements in such nominations as Religion, Political work, Interethnic relations, Economics, Education, Science, Culture, Medicine, Small and Innovation Production, Sport.
