Patriarch Kirill warns Russia against “pseudo modernization” concealing society’s inner Weakness
Moscow, March 4, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia believes that modernization in Russia should first of all be based on strengthening its own scientific and intellectual tradition.
“The National Research Nuclear University (MEPhI) witnesses to the vitality of our science and we should link the country ‘s real development and modernization to such centers,” Patriarch Kirill said on Thursday speaking to MEPhI professors and students.
Patriarch Kirill warned Russians against “pseudo modernization that hides the society inner weakness behind facades of glass, plastic and steel.”
According to the Patriarch, this weakness “will show up in any case and we don’t have to directly clash with other countries. This weakness will show up in all spheres from science to sport.”
Modernized development of Russia depends on its ability to give the world “a powerful intellectual product,” the Primate says considering “this affair very just and very useful” as it can provide for avantgarde development of the whole country.
Patriarch Kirill warned Russia against “getting used to intellectual dependency,” orientation to surviving only with help of its natural resources rather than intellectual potential. The Patriarch noted that “comfort only relaxes people.”
“Russia can not afford it as Russia is an independent center of the modern-day human civilization and it bears great responsibility for everything happening in the world,” the Russian Church Primate believes.
