Patriarch Kirill served a requiem on Alexy II in the Epiphany Cathedral

Moscow, December 4, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia has conduct a funeral service on Patriarch Alexy II in the Moscow Epiphany Cathedral on Friday evening, on the eve of anniversary of the 15th Primate’s of the Russian Orthodox Church death.

According to the Interfax-Religion, Patriarch Kirill has served the night requiem usually served on Friday evening on the eve of the Saturday of Remembrance of the Departed Parents. Bishops and Moscow clergy dressed in white vestments have also taken part in the service.

Some hundreds of persons have gathered at the beginning of the divine service in the Cathedral to esteem the memory of Alexy II. As well as one year ago, people came to the Cathedral with bouquets of white roses. Patriarch liked this sort of flowers most of all.

Attendants of the Cathedral gave to everybody candles for the Patriarch Alexy’s requiem.

The tomb of the Church’s Primate was situated in the right-side altar of the Cathedral.

Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia died on December 5 at the age of 80 in his Peredelkino residence, the Moscow Region. About 100,000 people day and night came to kneel down before his coffin set at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior during first days after his death.
