Patriarch Kirill commemorated Poles in the Severny aerodrome near Smolensk
Smolensk, June 7, Interfax – Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visited a place where a Polish plane crashed in the Severny aerodrome not far from Smolensk.
He laid wreaths to the memorial stone set at the site where Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his delegation were killed in the crash.

Addressing those who attended the ceremony, the Patriarch said that “this tragedy brought into action a very effective mechanism of Russian-Polish cooperation aimed at investigating the reasons of the catastrophe.” He expressed hope that Russian and Polish people “will be able to act so openly, sincerely and confidently not only in the moments of sorrow, but also in the moments of joy.”
“I am deeply convinced that a better future is in store for Russia and Poland, in particular in terms of bilateral relations. We are two Slavic nations, our fate is closely bound,” the Primate said.
He expressed deep sympathy to the whole Polish nation and relatives of victims killed in Smolensk air crash.
