Patriarch Iustin Moisescu Commemorated at the Romanian Patriarchate
On 31 July 2014, the worthy remembering Patriarch Iustin Moisescu was commemorated in the Patriarchal Cathedral, 28 years after since passing away.
The memorial service was celebrated by His Grace Ieronim Sinaitul, Assistant Bishop to the Patriarch.
To end with, His Grace evoked the personality of the 4th Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church: “His legacy for the Romanian Orthodox Church as writer, as well as saviour of the monasteries of the Metropolitanate of Moldova and Bucovina, and of many other monuments of the Archdiocese of Bucharest is an outstanding one. He was a great hierarch, who loved and encouraged theological culture and formation of the young generations of priests. He treated with love, good understanding and much pedagogical sense all the issues he was faced with. This is why his memory is a bright one and so we prayed God on this day to give him expiation and forgiveness for everything he must have mistaken in this life as human, for what he must have wished to accomplish, but the hostile time hindered him to accomplish”, His Grace said.
Patriarch Iustin Moisescu was born on 5 March 1910, in Candesti village, County of Arges. He attended the courses of the Orthodox Theological Seminary of Campulung Muscel. After graduating it, Patriarch Miron of Romania sent him to study in Greece, at the University of Athens, as well as to the Faculty of Roman Catholic Theology of Strasbourg, in France.
On 12 June 1977, Patriarch Iustin was elected Archbishop of Bucharest, Metropolitan of Ungro-Wallachia and Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, succeeding the worthy remembering Patriarch Justinian.
Patriarch Iustin passed away on 31 July 1986 and he was buried in the Patriarchal Cathedral, near Patriarchs Miron and Nicodim of Romania.
