Patriarch Irinej meets participants of the Days of Cyrillic Alphabet

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received on Saturday, June 30, 2012 the most successful participants of the competition of the Days of Cyrillic Alphabet, their parents, teachers and small hosts, members of the art ensamble “Aca Obradovic” from Bavaniste.
Addressing the guests, Patriarch Irinej stressed that it is necessary to preserve religion, language and alphabet, culture and tradition, reminding us that the first text written in Cyrillic alphabet was the Holy Gospel of John.
The eleventh “Days of Cyrillic Alphabet” was held in Bavaniste at the end of May of this year. At the competition, 5374 children from 345 school from Serbia and twenty other countries (Australia, New Zealand,USA, China, Albania…) participated.
