On August 28, 2014, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited the Grand Mufti of the Syrian Arab Republic Sheikh Ahmad Badreddine Hassoun. His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences the Archbishops Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Office Director, and Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Secretary.
His Holiness and Sheikh Hassoum discussed the current situation in Syria and the Middle East. They also talked about the Christian presence in the region and the challenges they face especially with the spread of religious extremism and terrorist organizations that expiate others with different beliefs.
