Lygeros – 8/4/18

Poems on Nativity by N. Lygeros. Translated from the Greek by Vicky Baklessi.

When you kiss
When you kiss the hand
of the priest
you follow
the priesthood
of the teaching
of Christ
because he is
its representative,
don’t see it
as an act
which reduces you
but
on the contrary
as an act
of resistance
to systems
which encroached
on humans
due to ideology
because they wanted
to enslave
everybody
without having
the help
of the sacred.

The witness
The witness
was everywhere,
at the Crucifixion
at the Tomb
at the Resurrection
to tell
the Truth
with all
the knowledge
so that the work
be disseminated
thanks to faith
which doesn’t doubt
since it feels
everything
without
exception
for the spirit
to live also.

Each voice
Each voice
and a role
below the Cross
for those who believed
in the Truth
because
they were seeing
the same nailed light
under the black sky
and now
you can listen to
what they said
separately
but together
to him who
had transformed
also the past
to create
the future.

Touch me not
Each voice
and a role
below the Cross
for those who believed
in the Truth
because
they were seeing
the same nailed light
under the black sky
and now
you can listen to
what they said
separately
but together
to him who
had transformed
also the past
to create
the future
.

The Crucifixion
The Crucifixion
is not
a spectacle
neither was
it necessary
for Christ
but it happened
necessarily
for the people
and for this
he accepted
the sacrifice
after the tradition
to show
to the faithful
with its example
that the resurrection
has meaning
and that barbarity
as powerful
as it is
it cannot
conquer
the light.

Eli, Eli, Lama Sabachtani
Eli, Eli, Lama Sabachtani
he said
in a clear way
and yet
who understood
at that moment
what he said
besides of course
his people
because the others
were there
only
to see him
dying
while his people
waited
already
the resurrection
after
the sacrifice
which he chose
to live
so that he returns.
