Participants of the contest “Days of Cyrillic Alphabet” in the Serbian Patriarchate

His Grace Vicar Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno blessed on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in the Patriarchate chapel of St. Symeon the Myrrh-Gusher the most successful participants of the contest “Days of Cyrillic Alphabet” and their hosts, members of the culture and art society “Aca Obradovic” from Bavaniste and on that occasion pointed out the significance of the preservation of Serbian language and the alphabet, as determinants of the Serbian national being.
Most of forty children and their twenty teachers and parents from all Serbia, for the first time visited the Patriarchate and the Patriarchate chapel. Small writers and poets read their works on the theme BROTHER, for which they were awarded at the Contest. Before the arrival in the Patriarchate, the children were at a little reception, made in their honor by Crown Prince Alexander and Princess Katherine Karadjordjevic. After the visit to the Patriarchate, the children went to see the St. Sava Cathedral.
The Days of Cyrillic Alphabet were created in Bavaniste ten years ago with a wish to contribute teh preservation of the Serbian cultural heritage, language and alphabet, songs and games, old handcrafts, customs and the Orthodox faith. The backbone of the event makes the competition for best literary work, penmanship, calligraphy, embroidery and relief.
This year at the contest there were works from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Romania, Hungary, Norway, France, England, South Africa, Australia and Russia.
