St-Spyridon-of-Trimythous

MINSK, 9 January (BelTA) – Belarusian and Greek Orthodox Churches have agreed that the relic of the right hand of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous will be brought to Belarus and be on display on 9-17 May 2013, BelTA learnt from the Belarusian Exarchate.

The relic which is to be brought from Corfu, Kerkyra will be displayed in Minsk and other cities of Belarus.

The move was blessed by Metropolitan Filaret of Minsk and Slutsk, Patriarchal Exarch of All Belarus and Metropolitan Nectarious of Kerkyra, Paxoi and Diapontia Islands who sent Christmas greetings to all the Belarusians not long ago. “Christ was born and will be born in the hearts and souls of people every day. He brought peace, love and justice to the world. Let this live in the hearts all of people on Earth,” the Greek hierarch said in his greetings.

In the Orthodox world Saint Spyridon of Trimythous is respected as much as Saint Nicholas of Myra. According to the legend, the two were the members of the First Ecumenical Council.
