ORTHODOX PUBLISHERS AT BOOK FAIR

The 54th Belgrade International Book Fair

The 54th Belgrade International Book Fair, held in October, gathered more than 800 participants. The Serbian Orthodox Church presented some very good publications, including those by monasteries, churches and church associations from various eparchies, in Serbia and the diaspora, which boasts a large production. The honorary country-guest at this year’s fair was Greece. Many works on Orthodox themes have been translated from Greek into Serbian so far. A publisher of the Backa Eparchy, „Beseda“, is known for their translations from Greek and this year they published a book Personality and Eros, by Orthodox theologian and philosopher Christos Yanaros. He presented his work together with Backa Bishop Irinej and also gave an interesting lecture on literature and metaphysics in the Greek and Serbian tradition.

Bishop of Hvostan Atanasije spoke at a presentation of a book of Gavrilo, the prior of the Orthodox Lepavina monastery in Croatia, entitled SPIRITUAL TALK. This book resulted from conversations Gavrilo had over SKYPE with people all over this planet. The book contains interesting inferences on modern life, problems we face daily, etc. This monk spend some time of his life on the Holy Mount.

A children’s magazine „Svetosavsko zvonce“ was also presented at the stand of the Serbian Orthodox Church and many children took part in the presentation, together with writers, priests, teachers and parents.

Bishop Atanasije Jevtić, a fruitful writer and translator, published a book dealing in liturgy themes. The metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, Amfilohije, presented his books as well.

A new library „Zograf“ of the Sumadija Eparchy Kalenić, was formed. It published three important iconographic studies, to contribute to the clarification of various significant issues of the theology of icons.
