Orthodox Church opens in one more Japanese city
Moscow, December 7, Interfax – New Orthodox church of the Epiphany will be consecrated in the Japanese city of Nagoya on January 11, 2010.
Metropolitan Daniel of Tokyo and All Japan and Bishop Seraphim of Sendai will chair the ceremony and the Divine Liturgy, the Moscow Patriarchate official website said.
An icon of Moscow Holy Hierarchs and laminated icons of the Epiphany were especially prepared in the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Laura.
Orthodox parish in Nagoya (the North Japan Diocese of the Japanese Autonomous Orthodox Church) was founded in 1880s. It has a home church dedicated to the Annunciation of the Holy Virgin built right after World War II.
Parishioners started fundraising for a new church in 1980s. The foundation stone was consecrated in June 2009 and building of a church and a parochial house began.
Basic building works were completed in October when cupola with a cross was consecrated and installed.
Newly-built Russian church of the Holy Prince Alexander Nevsky was consecrated in Tokyo last year.
