On the day of the 20th Anniversary of Independence of Ukraine the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church performed a prayer service at the Kyiv-Caves Monastery
On August 24, the day of the 20th anniversary of the Independence of Ukraine, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Volodymyr celebrated a prayer service in the square in front of the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
Raising the thanksgiving prayer to God, His Beatitude asked the Almighty Lord for the blessing and prosperity of the Ukrainian state, its people and leadership.
Praying together with the Primate were the bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the clergy of the Diocese of Kyiv.
Also praying at the worship service were President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Volodymyr Lytvyn, head of the Kyiv city state administration Alexander Popov, local government officials, parliamentarians and other officials.
After the prayer service the Archpastor congratulated all those attendingon the Independence Day and wished God’s blessing and intercession.
