Olympic Medalists Visit the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – August 2016

On 29 August, wrestler Mihran Harutyunyan and weightlifter Simon Martirosyan, both Olympic medalists, were received in the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin by His Grace Bishop Arshak Khachatryan. The athletes had recently returned from the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic games, held in Brazil from 5 – 22 of August, where they both won silver medals in their respective sports. They were accompanied by Mr. Samvel Gevorgyan, Vice President of the Wrestling Federation of Armenia; and Mr. Armen Badalyan, Deputy Chairman of the National Wrestling Federation.

Bishop Arshak conveyed to the athletes the congratulations and blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; for their achievements and successful performance at the Olympic games. Bishop Arshak, reflecting on the results of the Olympic Games, expressed confidence that with their triumphant spirit, the medal winners would serve as an example to the younger generations. He also noted that the success of the athletes brings great benefit to the nation, by drawing the attention of the international sports world.

The silver medalists expressed their deep gratitude for the reception and noted in particular the attention and support shown by the Mother See to the athletes. They stated that the blessings of the Mother See, would give them more strength to successfully compete in international sports competitions and achieve new victories in the future.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Bishop Arshak wished success to the Olympians, to preserve the honor of sports of Armenia.
