OCYM Platinum Jubilee Conference at Delhi

Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna on Wednesday felicitated the Christian community in the Capital for their remarkable contribuition to the all-round development of humanity.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Platinum Jubilee function of the Orthodox Christian Youth Movement at St Paul’s School, Hauz Khas, L-G said, “In Christians we find total commitment, honesty, domain knowledge and dedication to the cause that makes them true professionals in every field they operate. ”
He complimented the Indian Orthodox Church, the oldest Church established by St Thomas in India, for achieving rare accomplishments in the field of education and medical service through its numerous schools in and around Delhi besides a medical mission hospital at Aaya Nagar and a community service project at Mandavar village in Haryana.
He said, “The Christian community contributes to the all-round development of humanity by establishing educational institutions from the primary level to the highest professional standards.” Encouraging the nearly 2500 delegates participating in the four-day conference to keep up this spirit of Christiandom, he said, “Spirituality and day to day discipline of Christian community is something that all must imbibe.”
On the occasion, the Spiritual head of the Orthodox Church His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II addressed the delegates from Orthodox churches across the globe. “We should be proud of our legacy and the Apostolic root and tradition of the Orthodox Church, ” the Spiritual head also called The Catholicose said. Reminding the participants about the unblemished faith handed over through generations of Christians starting from St Thomas, he urged all present to keep up the flame burning and to continue making strides in all spheres of human and social development.
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mullapally Ramachnadran who delivered the Plenary Address on the occasion said, “The contribution of Christian community is a benchmark for the development of people all over the world. Christians have made their mark in every field and area of service, be it as educationists, industrialists, medical professionals, politicians, social workers and creative thinkers.”
His Grace Yuhanon Mar Polycarpos, the President of Orthodox Christian Youth Movement (OCYM) delivered the Presidential Address. Also present on the occasion were Assistant Bishop of Delhi Diocese, His Grace Yuhanon Mar Demetrios, Diocesan Secretary Very Rev MS Skariah Ramban, Vice President of OCYM Rev. Fr. Jacob Mathew, General Secretary OCYM Rev. Fr. Stephen Varghese and Delhi OCYM Vice-President Rev. Fr. Philip M Samuel.
