Priests organized in a trade union. It is forbidden, metropolitan counters
Bulgarian orthodox priests have founded a trade union unit as part of Podkrepa Labour Confederation. The news was confirmed by Podkrepa leader Konstantin Trenchev.
The leader of the ecclesiastical union is Hristo Latinov. The organization unites priests, sextons, administrative servants of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and candle manufacturers, trade union activists explained for The Standart.
The unrest among church servants started in the town of Vratsa. The priests in the town complained they don’t receive their salaries on time and they don’t have health and retirement insurances. “Priests to have a trade union?! This is an absurd!” Vratsa metropolitan Kipriyan reacted. “The canons forbid it,” Kipriyan was categorical.
