NEW ROMANIAN CHURCH NEARS COMPLETION

The Romanian Orthodox parish of Señor de Roquetas will soon be able to worship in a new church, unlike any other seen before in the history of Almería.
The work is happening with the cooperation of the Bishop of Almería, with whom the Orthodox parish maintains excellent relations since he began his career in the area.
The Bishop has endorsed the requests of some 200,000 people who had asked for the construction of the temple, after they had been using a small bungalow for the past five years.
The building is being constructed with a budget of 341,000€ and is on a plot of 1,330 square metres, which had been donated by the Municipality of Roquetas.
The first stone for the church was laid two years ago and is now very close to completion. The finishing touches are being put on the exterior, whilst the interior furnishing work is expected to take just two to three months.
Doubts had been placed on the entire project, due to the current financial climate, but donations and funding has ensured that the work will indeed finish, and will be drawing in the crowds who can hardly wait to experience the lavish temple design.
The community that the new church will serve have already benefitted from events that the parishioners have organized, which will continue well into the future, providing cultural and educational standards that are set to put the municipality firmly on the map as a centre of excellence.
