New Publication on Christian Martyrs

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – August 2016

With the blessings of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; the Publishing Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin has published an anthology book entitled “The New Armenian Witnesses” (1155-1843), and is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The book was translated into modern Eastern Armenian by Mr. Gevork Tosunyan.

The well-known book was originally published in 1903 in Holy Etchmiadzin, and was written in classical Armenian (Krapar). The book includes the martyrology of 140 martyrs who were martyred for Christianity from 1155 to 1843. The martyrs presented in the book suffered terrible torments, and were martyred confessing their devotion to Christ.

The original texts were compiled by professors of the Gevorkian Theological Seminary, armenologists Mr. Hakob Manandyan and Mr. Hrachya Acharyan. They gathered biographies of the holy martyrs from manuscripts, liturgical writings, and historian’s accounts.

The book was published by the patronage of the Sarkis Gabrielyan Foundation.
