Bishop Arsenios was enthroned Metropolitan of Austria and Exarch of Hungary and Mid-Europe at the historical Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity in Vienna on Sunday, December 4.
The newly appointed Metropolitan expressed his will and hopes to carry on the remarkable work of his predecessor Michael as well as preserving and continuing transmitting the Greek traditions and cultural heritage.
His Eminence Arsenios spoke very warmly of the Greek National School in Vienna, which is the oldest Greek School abroad and was founded 207 years ago. He also congratulated the hierarchs of the ecclesiastical authorities present for their overall efforts and work for the Greek community in Austria.
His Grace Bishop elect Arsenios (Kardamakis) succeeded the late Metropolitan Michael of Austria who died of cancer in October 18, 2011. Bishop elect Arsenios (Kardamakis) was ordinated at the Ecumenical Patriarchate on November 30.
The new Metropolitan Arsenios was born in 1973 in Heraklion of Crete and is a graduate of the Higher Ecclesiastical School of Athens and the Theological School of the University of Athens. He completed his doctorate at the Strasbourg University and was first ordinate as monk in the St. George Monastery in Crete.
