According to reports by the Interfax news agency and the Orthodox Church YouTube channel, more than 1000 indigenous Papua New Guineans have declared their interest to join the Orthodox Church. Several of them have already appealed to Patriarch Krill of Moscow and all Russia.

Fr. Kirill Shkarbul (the rector of the Holy Cross Church in Taipei), has pioneered the mission in Papua New Guinea by baptizing more than 1,000 people in various settlements. Many more are preparing to join the Orthodox faith. Miklouho-Maclay Foundation stated that the recent converts are offered land for the constructions of church buildings. The Russian Orthodox Diocese of Singapore is responsible for East Timor and Papua New Guinea.
