Muslim group condemns Egypt terror Atrocity
4/1/2011
A religious group based in Leicester has denounced a terrorist attack in Egypt which killed 21 people.
The Federation of Muslim Organisations said it condemned in the strongest terms the carnage caused by a car bomb outside a Coptic Orthodox Church in the north Egyptian city of Alexandria.
The New Year’s Day blast killed at least 21 people and injured more than 40.
Nearly 1,000 Christians were attending mass at the time. The service had just ended, and worshippers were leaving the building when the blast went off, about half an hour after midnight.
Suleman Nagdi, Leicester-based spokesman for the Federation of Muslim Organisations said the group also condemned continued clashes in Nigeria between Christians and Muslims.
He said: “Violence of any type is unacceptable. The world should treat those individuals responsible as criminals who must be made to answer for their activities.
“An early report suggests terror groups were responsible. Both instances demonstrate that fundamental human rights have been violated and that we must give protection to all including minorities.
“What concerns me is that Christians and Muslims have a shared history. Our beloved prophet drafted a constitution of Medina which gave rights and statues to non-Muslims.
“We must return to the true teachings of our faith.”
