Mount Athos to Get Solar Power Project Worth 13 Million Euro

Self-Governing Monastic Republic of Mount Athos – Greece: Last month the government of Greece decided to install a 2.6 MW solar power project in the Monastic Republic of Mount Athos. The aim is to improve the quality of life in the mountains with funding from the Central Macedonia regional authority.

However, Hilandar monastery, Saint Panteleimon and Konstamonitou monasteries are excluded from the project, whereas Vatopedi monastery will get the biggest solar power unit of 540 KW.

The solar project will help the monks to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and also the use of firewood.
