Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin Issues Statement on Armed Attack of Police Station

Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin – July 2016

His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; and the members of the Brotherhood of Holy Etchmiadzin, are deeply concerned about the attack on the Police Station in the Erebuni District of Yerevan, Armenia; which has resulted in the death of one policeman, injuries to both the attackers and officer, and led to a hostage situation.

Such actions of armed extremism is inexcusable. Today, our nation’s harmony, solidarity and national unity are vital and imperative for the preservation and safeguarding of our nation’s strength and safety.
The Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin calls for the gunmen to behave reasonably , encouraging them to resolve the situation peacefully, and to avoid further causalities.

The Catholicos of All Armenians has instructed the spiritual adviser to the police, Archbishop Arakel Karamyan; to remain in direct contact with law enforcement, follow developments and report back frequently on the situation.
