Most Moscow citizens trust Patriarch Kirill and Orthodox Church – Poll

Moscow, February 22, Interfax – 70 percent of Moscow citizens appreciate the work of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, according to the results of research performed by the laboratory of modern society problems at the Department of Social Studies of Moscow University in July last year.

The respondents praise Patriarch for mentioning moral values in his multiple public appearances and appealing to young people, the Synodal Information Department reported to Interfax-Religion on Tuesday.

The participants of this poll also note personal qualities of Patriarch, and according to them, he demonstrates a proactive attitude, kindness, education, understanding and ability to share a common language with people.

Besides, 67 percent of Moscow citizens trust the Russian Orthodox Church because they believe it performs the function of unifying and bringing people together. Another 65 percent noted the efforts to help penniless people and 64 percent view the Church as the spiritual and moral foundation of the society.

Only 6 percent of respondents answering the question about the downside of the Russian Orthodox Church said the Church’s cooperation with the government authorities was the “interference with politics”.
