The Sretensky Monastery in Moscow has launched an action aimed at helping Serbian orthodox monasteries and churches in Kosovo-Metohija, the Ras-Prizren Diocese stated on Tuesday evening.
The monastery has opened a donation box for monasteries and churches in Kosovo-Metohija, and the diocese quoted the message by Archimandrite Tikhon of the Sretensky Monastery calling for preservation of the lit candle of Orthodoxy in Kosovo.
Archimandrite Tikhon is one of the most respectable bishops of Moscow working on Russia’s spiritual revival.
In late November 2011, Archimandrite Sava Janjic of the Visoki Decani Monastery conferred with Archimandrite Tikhon on help for the Serbian people.
The talks were followed by a meeting between Archimandrite Tikhon and the Ras-Prizren archbishop in Belgrade in December 2011, when they agreed on concrete proposals for more active cooperation and aid which would be coordinated from the Russian Orthodox Church through the Sretensky Monastery.
This action is realization of the idea presented by Head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk in the previous months, the statement adds.
