Minsk to host Orthodox- Roman Catholic Forum 2-6 June

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – Representatives of 22 countries will take part in the Orthodox-Catholic Forum which will be held in Minsk on 2-6 June, Superior of the All Saints Memorial Church Archpriest Fyodor Povnyi told reporters on 30 May, BelTA has learned.
According to Fyodor Povnyi, the Orthodox-Catholic Forum will become an important event for the scientific community. For the fist time Belarus will play host to a meeting of famous theologists, religious scholars and philosophers. The forum will gather together people from Greece, Cyprus, Georgia, Germany, France, Italy, Slovakia, Serbia, Russia, Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Romania, Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Poland.
“The forum aims to consolidate Christian powers of Europe, first of all, Catholic and Orthodox communities,” Fyodor Povnyi said. “It will help find a way out from the deep moral and social geopolitical crisis which aggravates because of the indifference to spiritual aspects of the human nature and society,” he added.
In his words, the event attracts religious leaders, religious communities and the society. The forum will promote informal religious and cultural diplomacy. It will improve the image of Belarus and its traditional religious communities.
The forum will open in the All Saints Memorial Church on 2 June. The working meetings will take place on 3-5 June.
Participants of the forum will also have an opportunity to get familiar with Belarusian traditions and culture.
They will choose the venue for the 2016 forum.
The Orthodox-Catholic Forum is held once in two years. Previously it was held in Italy, Greece, Portugal.
The conference of religious leaders was initiated by Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk Filaret, Patriarchal Exarch Emeritus of All Belarus and Metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev, Archbishop Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz in 2012.
The Orthodox-Catholic Forum “Religion and cultural pluralism: challenges for Christian churches in Europe” was blessed by Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill.
