Metropolitan Tikhon visits Brooklyn, NY’s St. Nino Mission

 OCA – January 2016

At the invitation of His Eminence, Archbishop Michael of New York, His Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, visited Saint Nino Mission, Brooklyn, NY, where he celebrated the Divine Liturgy and joined the faithful in fellowship on Sunday, January 17, 2016.

Priest Alexander Tandilashvili, Rector, extended a warm welcome to Metropolitan Tikhon, who was accompanied by Archpriest Eric G. Tosi, OCA Secretary; Archdeacon Joseph Matusiak; and Subdeacon Roman Ostash.

Established in 2005 to serve the needs of a growing number of Orthodox Christian faithful from the Republic of Georgia in the New York City area, the community has been meeting in rented quarters while seeking a permanent “home of its own.”  The mission bears the name of Saint Nino, the Equal to the Apostles and Enlightener of Georgia, who brought the faith to Georgia in the early fourth century.

At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, which was attended by well over 100 faithful and many children, Metropolitan Tikhon recalled his visit to the Georgian Republic last year and his meeting with His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos Patriarch Ilia II, Primate of the Georgian Church.  In referring to the OCA’s diversity, he cited Saint Nino’s as a prime example.

Following the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Tikhon enjoyed fellowship with the faithful, and the mission’s children were especially delighted to meet and speak with him.

A photo gallery of the visit may be viewed on the OCA web site andFacebook page.
