Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb Elected New Serbian Patriarch

Belgrade-Serbia: Metropolitan Porfirije Perić of Zagreb and Ljubljana has been elected as the 46th Patriarch of the Serbian Church. Election results were declared on the even of 18th February 2021 at the end of the Holy Bishops Council that was held at the Saint Sava Cathedral.
Metropolitan Porfirije was born “Prvoslav Perić” on 22 July 1961, in the town of Bečej, FPR Yugoslavia (Serbia). He has earned a bachelor’s degree in Orthodox theology from the University of Belgrade. The Prelate earned his Masters and Doctorate from the University of Athens. He has served as the military chaplain of Serbian Armed Forces until 2011 and later became the titular bishop of Jegar in 1999 and was elected as the Metropolitan of Zagreb in 2014.
