Metropolitan Mar Yulios to represent Oriental Orthodox at Helsinki Lausanne Orthodox Initiative from Sept 1-5

HELSINKI, Finland: The third Lausanne Orthodox Initiative (LOI) consultation begins outside Helsinki from September 1 to 5, 2015 under the theme ‘The Gospel as Good News’.

HG Pulikkottil Dr Geevarghese Mar Yulios will participate as a delegate and will be the sole representative from among the Oriental Orthodox churches. The invitation to attend the meeting is from His Beatitude Archbishop Leo of Karelia and All Finland and the Evangelical Alliance of Finland. The Metropolitan will get to interact with about 63 Orthodox and evangelical leaders at the consultation.

The meeting will be held at the beautiful Sofia Cultural Centre and the participants will be guests of the Orthodox Church of Finland.

Dr Mar Yulios will be leading the discussion groups and also delegate the Oriental Orthodox group. Also during the five-day consultations, the Metropolitan will also meet and interact with the hierarchs of the Finnish Orthodox Church.

This will be the second time the Metropolitan will be participating in the LOI consultation. His Grace took part at the second Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative (LOI) Consultation held at St Vlash monastery in the Albanian capital of Tirana from September 15 to 19, 2014.

Metropolitan Dr Mar Yulios performed a Biblical Reflection at the opening session while Dr Yuhanon Mar Demetrios acted as a responder at the plenary on “Ethical Evangelism and Proselytism” at the Tirana meeting. The present meeting at the beautiful Sofia Cultural Centre will have many topics for discussion but the most critical will be ‘What is the Gospel?’, ‘What makes the Gospel Good News?, ‘How do we communicate the Gospel?’ and ‘What next for the Lausanne-Orthodox Initiative?’

The target of the Foundation of the Finnish Orthodox Cultural Centre is to support and promote Orthodox cultural and research, education and art connected to Orthodox culture. The Foundation also supports the activities at the centre by organising education in cooperation with different other parties, through publication work and by granting donations to activities that are in line with the targets of the Foundation.
