AHMEDABAD, India: HG Pullikkottil Dr Geevarghese Yulios, Indian Orthodox Metropolitan from the Diocese of Ahmedabad, practices what he preaches.
The Bishop who had in a Lenten Kalpana # 04A/15 extorted the faithful to be participants of salvific suffering, death and resurrection of the Lord has went a step further of giving back and living generously.
The Metropolitan who was delivering Lenten lectures and leading the retreats volunteered to bless and help 17 fourth-year students of St Thomas Orthodox Theological Seminary (STOTS), Nagpur, (Maharashtra state) preparing for their Sub-Diaconate ordination. They received the Orthodox Study Bible from HG Dr Mathews Mar Severios, Metropolitan Kandanad Diocese (West) at St Thomas Seminary Chapel.
At the time of leaving the Seminary, the Metropolitan’s philanthropic act came out to the fore. His Grace initiated to donate a Bolero van for the seminary as their old Sumo had become rickety due to constant use. The Bolero van and the study Bible was courtesy of the Metropolitan’s Discretionary Fund from the Diocese of Ahmedabad, with the fund being used purely for charity during this Lenten season.
During his stay at the Nagpur seminary, Dr Mar Yulios also completed 23 years of ordination as priest and was privileged to celebrate Holy Eucharist along with the spiritual children at STOTS. After the Eucharist, the seminary family under the leadership of its Vice-Principal, Fr Dr Shaji P John, and Registrar-cum-Warden, Fr Dr Reji K felicitated His Grace by cutting a cake on the occasion.
A week earlier, Dr Mar Yulios had joined the students’ movement members of Baroda towards distributing food packets to the less privileged who live in the city’s slums. The Metropolitan urged the diocesan movement to actively involve all other units to take up charity works from their tithing.
Due to the donation of the van from the Discretionary Fund, the Metropolitan has been forced to pay a monthly instalment of Rs 12,807 for the next 5 years till 2020. Those interested to shoulder responsibility towards its payment may get in touch on the Metropolitan’s email at: hgyulios@gmail.com
As per the decision of the Holy Episcopal Synod, Dr Mar Yulios will lead the Holy Week Services at St Paul’s and St Peter’s Church, Parumala on the banks of river Pamba in Kerala, where the last rites of St Gregorios are entombed.
