Indian Malankara Orthodox Church
12/11/2012
UAE/Abu Dhabi: Metropolitan H.G Yakob Mar Irenious, who is also the President of Order of Servants of Cross (Sleeba Dasa Samooham), Malankara Sabha Pathrika and Sunday School Association, inaugurated the Alwariz Mar Julius Metropolitan Scholarship distribution by handing it over to the Cathedral Trustee on 2nd November 2012 after the Holy Qurbana (Feast Day of St. Gregorious of Parumala). Nineteen applicants of Brahamawar Diocese who were academically brilliant but belonged to financially weaker section got eligible for the Scholarship project. The Application forms were invited from all the parishes of the Diocese and were shortlisted based on the eligibility criteria setup for the project.
Alwariz Mar Julius Metropolitan Scholarship Project was initiated in the Blessed memory of Late Lamented Archbishop of India (for the diocesan area of outside Kerala of the Malankara Orthodox Church) and Ceylon who had started the Brahmawar Mission at Karnataka in 1888. It holds great importance especially when the Holy Church is celebrating the 90th Memorial Feast of Alwariz Mar Julius Thirumeni, The Centenary of the Catholicate establishment and the 1960th Anniversary of the Holy Church in India. The project was earlier launched by HH Bava Thirumeni on 27th April 2012.
OCYM through its benefactors finds this project as an opportunity to focus on the educational empowerment of the academically brilliant students of Brahmawar Diocese. The Brahmawar Diocese includes Districts of Kannore, Kasargode, the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, along with the Konkani speaking Orthodox Community of Dakshina Kannada, Uduppi, Chikkamangalore and State of Goa who had bestowed their allegiance to LL Alvariz Mar Julius Metropolitan and had accepted and inherited the rich spirit of Orthodoxy, about 100 years ago, during the times of Parumala thirumeni . It is our pleasure to share the fact that 10 students out of 19 who were awarded the Alwariz Mar Julius Metropolitan Scholarship is from Konkani speaking Orthodox Community.
OCYM is deeply indebted to the good will of the members of St. George Orthodox Cathedral, Abu Dhabi who had voluntarily and wholeheartedly supported the cause, which enabled us to serve the Church through the Scholarship Project. We hope that the financial support and mentoring through the project and the intercessory prayers of Alvarez Thirumeni and other saints will definitely help these students to successfully pursue their dreams.
