Meeting Of The Commission For The Statutes And Regulations Of The Romanian Patriarchate
On 18 September 2012, His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church chaired the session of the Commission for the Statutes and Regulations of the Romanian Patriarchate. The members of the Commission analyse the regulations draft for organising and operating the Church Painting Commission. The meeting takes place at the Patriarchate Palace of Bucharest.
To start with the session, as Trinitas Radio station informs us, the Patriarch of Romania spoke about the importance of the church painting.
“Art is bedecking the churches for us. Sacred or liturgical art is a vestment of faith and space where we meet God and His saints. First of all, painting expresses the dogma, the true faith. Secondly, it calls to prayer, and thirdly church art is a beauty or gem of the Church”.
The Primate of the Romanian Orthodox Church has also spoken about the responsibility of the painting commission.
“The Church Painting Commission has a very great responsibility, especially at a time when new churches were built which must be painted. A very great responsibility too is the way in which the churches and the present painting are renovated. It is more difficult to restore a painting than make a new one because authenticity, originality and epoch when a painting was executed must be observed”.
The regulations text for organising and operating the Church Painting Commission within the Romanian Patriarchate will be submitted to the next session of the Holy Synod to be held from 28 – 29 September 2012.
