Macedonia’s Orthodox Church Lifts Ban On Facebook
14/12/13
The Macedonian Orthodox Church has overturned a ban on Facebook that it had imposed on its clergy.
Bishop Clement, the secretary of the Macedonian Orthodox Church’s Holy Synod, said on December 12 that the church will allow clergy to use Facebook but will make some restrictions on its use.
He said the church will soon clarify how its clergy will be allowed to use Facebook.
The October ban on Facebook by Macedonia’s Orthodox Church was opposed by many young church workers who were active on the Internet.
Church officials said the ban aimed to prevent “new phenomena of confessions and intimate conversations with young people.”
About 67 percent of Macedonia’s 2 million people are Orthodox Christians.
