Luzhkov lists the sites for building 35 churches in Moscow bedroom Districts
Moscow, September 27, Interfax – Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov has prepared a list of top priority sites for building Orthodox churches in the capital.
The draft signed by the Moscow mayor is posted at the website of the city Department for Road, Bridge and Engineering Construction.
35 new churches will be constructed in frames of the program of building module churches in bedroom districts.
So-called Project 200 initiated by Patriarch Kirill suggests building of 200 new churches in the coming years. Today Moscow holds the last place in Russia for correlation of churches and population: there is only one church for 40 thousand of Orthodox Muscovites while in Russian regions there is one church for three thousand people.
Each church will have a parochial complex with a house for clerics, administrative premises, a canteen, a Sunday school and a chapel for Baptism.
