London site of Centenary Conference in memory of Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh

Metropolitan Anthony

October 2014

“The Glory of God is a Man Fully Alive” is the theme of a Centenary Conference marking the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Metropolitan Anthony [Bloom] of Sourozh, slated to be held at King’s College London November 15-16, 2014.

Metropolitan Anthony, a prominent 20th century Orthodox Christian hierarch, theologian and author, fell asleep in the Lord in 2003.

Organized by the Metropolitan Anthony of Sourozh Foundation [MASF], the conference—the sixth to be held in Western Europe in his memory—will look at his spiritual and theological vision and teaching and at him as a person, inasmuch as what he preached was inseparable from what he tried to live. Reflections will focus on the conference theme in light of Metropolitan Anthony’s example as a pastor and shepherd who strove to live every word of the Gospel to the full, and to live it in the very heart and turmoil of the modern world.

Speakers include Dr. Rowan Williams, Cambridge; His Eminence, Metropolitan John [Zizioulas] of Pergamon, Athens; Father Alexander Fostiropoulos, London; Brother Adalberto Mainardi, Bose, Italy; Dr. Susanne Sklar, Wisconsin; Dr. Elisabeth Robson, Brighton; Costa Carras, Athens; and Karin Greenhead, London.

Registration and other information is available on the Foundation’s web site.

The MASF is a body of independent trustees who collect, publish and make known the writings, recordings and films that make up Metropolitan Anthony’s legacy—a body of work that spoke not only to his own Church but far beyond its boundaries to the whole of society. The Foundation maintains an extensive archive containing a rich collection of his published and unpublished works, spiritual and theological writings, and letters, films and documents concerning his life and pastoral ministry.
