Cairo: The Institute of Coptic studies in Cairo hosted a number of presentations on 29th May 2015, including a special session on the History, Architecture, Tradition and Arts of Indian Orthodox Malanakra Church
The Presentation on the Church 0f India was made Rijo Geevarghese, a student of Iconography who is serving with the Coptic Orthodox Evangelism.
Attendees included Dr Samy Sabri (Dean of Institute of Coptic Studies and an expert in Coptic Architecture), Dr Ashraf Alexander Sadek (Professor of Coptology, Egyptology , Biblical Archaeology, University of Limoges -France).
The main focus of the lecture was on the old heritage of Indian Church, Thomyor Kovil (Church built by St. Thomas the Apostle), Kottayam Old Seminary (Asia’s first School of Theology) as well as the comparison between Coptic and Indian Orthodox traditions.
On behalf of the Indian Orthodox Malankara Church, Rijo Geevarghese presented a copy of thesis on Nazarani Architecture by Dr Kurian Thomas(Leading Orthodox Historian in India) to the Coptic Library. The talk on architecture was based on Dr Kurien’s Doctoral Thesis as well.
Institute plans to host more events on future that will help to research and learn various aspects and to boost inter-orthodox relations between ancient Churches of India and Egypt.
