Kyiv Council Deputy Bryhynets (BYT-B): Monks Make Attempt To Illegally Penetrate To Territory Of Desiatynna Church

26/5/2011

Kyiv city council deputy Oleksandr Bryhynets from the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko – Batkivschyna faction, head of the standing commission of the council for culture and tourism, exposes an attempt taken by monks of what he describes as “illegally built monastery near the Desiatynna Church” to illegally penetrate to the territory of archeological excavations of the church.

Ukrainian News learned this from a statement by the press service of Oleksandr Bryhynets.
“The monks from the monastery illegally built near the Desiatynna Church tried to enter the territory of the archeological excavations of the church. When asked where they took the key from the territory of the archeological excavations of the church, a monk mentioned St. Peter who had keys not only for the paradise,” reads the statement.

The monks abandoned the idea of penetrating to the territory of the monastery after Bryhyhets arrived there and told them why their actions were illegal.

The deputy said representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate last night brought trailers for builders to the wooden church near the Desiatynna Church.
According to the deputy, both the trailers for builders and the wooden church itself was erected without any permission.

According to him, the trailers for builders was a response to a resolution of the Kyiv city state administration to create a museum on the territory of the Desiatynna Church and to abandon an idea of building a new church there.

Bryhynets applies to Oleksandr Popov, head of the Kyiv city state administration, and the Prosecutor General’s Office with a demand to take measures to remove illegal objects from the territory of the Desiatynna Church.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Our Ukraine Party urges the Kyiv city prosecutor’s office to check preparations for construction works near the foundation of the Desiatynna Church.
On May 19, the Kyiv city state administration selected two projects in restoration of the Desiatynna Church. The commission offered authors of the projects to unite for creating a joint option.

In the evening of May 25, two trailers for builders were brought to the Desiatynna Church.
According to mass media reports, representatives of the developer refused to show any permissions for works to police who arrived there.
