King: Jordan model for Muslim-Christian Harmony, Coexistence

Amman, August 24 (Petra) — His Majesty King Abdullah II on Wednesday said that Jordan is a model for harmony and coexistence between Muslims and Christians as they constitute a one family that works to enhance the development march.
The King told a meeting with the heads of the Orthodox churches in the Middle East that Jordan is keen on the Christian presence in the Palestinian territories in particular and in the Middle East in general.
The King stressed the important role the Orthodox church can play in promoting the message of harmony, love and peace for the welfare and interests of humanity to achieve greater convergence between different cultures and peoples.
The heads of churches hailed the King’s efforts to keep channels open, build bridges of communications, remove misconceptions among followers of various religions, away from intolerance and militancy, referring to a number of initiatives launched by the King in this regard.
They also commended the King’s endeavors to bring about just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East. They paid tribute to the Hashemites’ role in protecting holy Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
The delegation comprised Archbishop of Cyprus, His Beatitude Chrysostomos, Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and Jordan Theophilos III, Patriarch Luke Khoury, representative of His Beatitude Patriarch Ignatius IV of Antioch and All the East.
