Bagdad-Iraq: In a recent statement, the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mr Mustafa Al-Kazemi stated that Christians remain the “original children of the country. The Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) reported that he encouraged Christians who have left Iraq in recent years to return to their homeland. Mustafa Al-Kazemi had a meeting with the Roman Catholic prelates to discuss the situation of indigenous Christian in Iraq. Christian prelates responded they support the return call for Christians by the Iraqi leader.
Al-Kadhimi said that “Iraq is the country for everyone and that Christians are the original children of the country, and there is no difference between the people of the same country, as everyone is a partner in building the future of Iraq.”
“We are serious about providing assistance to our Christian families and solving their problems,” he continued. “We are glad that Christians will return to Iraq and contribute to its reconstruction. Iraqis of all sects are yearning for a new Iraq that believes in peace and rejects violence.”
A considerable number of Iraqi Christians were either displaced or killed in recent years by radical terrorist groups like ISIS. Many of them wish to return to Iraq but fear their safety.
