Initiative to establish fund for preservation of holy sites in Kosovo

Deputy Speaker of the Russian Federal Council Alexander Torshin believes that it is necessary to establish an international fund for preservation of Orthodox holy sites in Kosovo. Such fund would be responsible for assistance in restoration, maintenance, and, if necessary, protection of Orthodox churches and monasteries in Kosovo,Torshin stated for the Interfax agency.
The Russian official, who attended the ceremony of enthronement of Serbian Patriarch Irinej, stated that he discussed this while visiting Kosovo with representatives of Italy, Germany, U.S. and other countries, as well as in separate talks with representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church. According to Torshin, the situation in Kosovo is such that the brotherly Serbian Orthodox people must be assisted in preserving holy sites in the province as soon as possible.
