Indian Orthodox Church to Build the Largest Cancer Care Centre in Asia
Proposed Structure of the International Cancer Care Centre
PARUMALA (South India): The foundation stone laying ceremony of the dream project- St. Gregorios International Cancer Center (Research and Training) under St. Gregorios Medical Mission Hospital, Parumala will be held on August 24, 2009 by the Supreme head of the Indian (Malankara) Orthodox Church His Holiness Baselios Marthoma DidymosI (Catholicose of the Apostolic Throne of St thomas and Malankara Metropolitan) at Parumala Hospital at 3pm. All members of the Holy Synod will attend the function.
St. Gregorios International Cancer Care Centre is mainly aimed at providing treatment for cancer patients at an affordable cost.
The St. Gregorios Medical Mission already possesses all the clinical facilities, except the radiotherapy facility to start a cancer centre. A full fledged cancer centre with an eight storied building will be opened hopefully in next 3 years with exclusive cancer wards, qualified and experienced personnel and radiotherapy treatment facilities. 100 crore rupees is estimated to complete the hospital building. The new facility will have 17 different departments including palliative care, hospice, nuclear medicine, radio therapy, etc.
The new Hospital will also have education and research facilities. Leading doctors from USA will be made available for training, supervision and consultation (for the hospital).
Fr. Alexander Koodarathil is the Chief Executive Officer coordinating the new project to complete it in a timely fashion
