ANNOUNCEMENT ON COMPLETION OF THE EVALUATION OF PARTICIPATION’S IN THE SECOND I.A.O. INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CONTEST ON THE SUBJECT ‘DESTRUCTION OF MONUMENTS OF EASTERN CHRISTIANITY’
The second photo contest was organized upon proposal of the Committee on Culture of the I.A.O. Secretariat and in collaboration with the online community OrthPhoto.net. The contest was dedicated to the immovable monuments of the Eastern Christian tradition, which are of great significance and make part of the cultural legacy of all peoples throughout the world.
The Jury of the Contest was international and consisted of 10 persons plus the two advisors to the I.A.O.. The jury voted having taken into account the material sent for the contest, though without knowing the names of the participants. Anonymity of participants was observed throughout the process, so as to ensure fairness of the evaluation.
In the first phase of the evaluation process, the jury selected the best participations for each one of the three sectors of the contest. In the second phase, the jury’s selections in each sector were aggregated. Three new sets of selected participations were created by this procedure, one for each sector of the contest. In the third phase, these new three sets of participations were rescored by the jury, one by one, this time on the basis of certain criteria. More specifically, the following were scored for each participation:
Α. The artistic value of the photo(s) of the participation, on a scale from zero to forty, with forty being the best.
Β. Provision of more comprehensive information on the monument, its significance, its precise position, as well as information on its accessibility, on a scale from zero to thirty, with thirty being the best.
C. Better photos of the general view of the monument site taken by the same contestant, on a scale from zero to thirty, with thirty being the best.
The maximum score given to each participation was one hundred.
In the forth phase, participations with a score above seventy were sorted out; of those, three from each sector of the contest were selected as the prize-winners.

A. Abandoned monuments left to the ravages of time because of compulsive or voluntary discontinuation of their use.
Β. Monuments that are accessible and in use, however damaged by air or other sort of pollutants and other natural elements.
C. Monuments that have suffered man-induced damage – destruction.
